‘We celebrate Midge Gillies this National Authors Day for her brilliant book ‘Piccadilly’!
‘Delving into major political and social events, alongside more personal stories Gillies has woven a rich and engrossing biography of the heart of London.
‘We were interested to read about Bauhaus professor László Moholy-Nagy working at Simpsons of Piccadilly (now Waterstones) in the mid-1930s.
‘Using his artistic knowledge he was a vital part of the store’s aesthetic and in particular his skill with neon lights created beautiful window lighting with colours flowing onto the building’s portland stone exterior!
‘Published in 2022 and covering late 1800s through to now – this book is a fascinating read.’
